The mission of the College Democrats of Montana is to engage students in the democratic process and foster an atmosphere of empowerment, to educate inclusivity, and create campus community. We strive to create an environment that values diversity, equality, and social justice, while advocating for policies and initiatives that address the needs and aspirations of our generation.
Strategic initiatives for 2023
Campus Community Engagement: Through monthly speaker events, we will foster a culture of discourse by providing valuable insights and perspectives on political issues. These events aim to encourage open dialogue and critical thinking among students, promoting a vibrant and engaged campus community.
Outreach and Recruitment: Through weekly tabling events, we will expand our network and actively recruit over 250 students each time. By reaching out to a diverse range of students, we aim to increase active participation and ensure a broad representation within our organization.
Policy Advocacy and Influence: We will form strategic partnerships with organizations to effectively influence legislation and promote progressive policies. By leveraging collective voices and resources, we strive to achieve tangible outcomes and drive positive change in our communities.
Leadership Development and Canvassing Training: We are committed to equipping young Democrats with comprehensive leadership and canvassing training programs. These initiatives will empower individuals with the skills and confidence to effectively lead and engage with their communities, fostering a new generation of progressive leaders.
Voter Registration Drive: Through engaging events and accessible booths, we will aim to register over 3,500 eligible students, making the voter registration process both informative and enjoyable. Our goal is to ensure that every eligible student has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
Democratic Candidate Promotion: By organizing campaign events, rallies, and forums, we will facilitate meaningful connections between Democratic candidates and students. Through collaboration and effective strategies, we aim to mobilize support and actively engage students in the political process. Additionally, we strive to achieve a total of 6,000 doors knocked for multiple canvassing days, directly engaging with voters.
Expansion of Montana College Democrats: We are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of progressive leaders and are actively seeking to establish more chapters of Montana College Democrats. Montana's Green New Deal: BPRA (Build Public Renewables Act): As the first youth-run organization to introduce environmental legislation into a state legislature, our main focus for 2025 is Montana's Green New Deal: BPRA (Build Public Renewables Act). Inspired by the successes of the New York Green New Deal, we are working tirelessly to craft a Montana-specific version. This groundbreaking policy aims to address climate change, promote renewable energy, and create sustainable jobs in our state. Collaboration with State Democratic House Reps for Local Op-Eds and Letters to the Editors: As part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and drive discussions on important issues, we are collaborating with State Democratic House Representatives to organize local op-eds and letters to the editors. Through these platforms, we aim to shed light on the legislative session and address the challenges faced by Montanans. Your involvement in sharing your perspectives and experiences will be invaluable in amplifying our message and driving meaningful conversations.
